Catholic Campus Ministry exists to provide college students with enriching spiritual, social, and civic activities, as well opportunities that will enable the students to grow in these areas while attending classes. We believe that the university years are important formative years that will have a lasting effect upon the students’ character.

Newman Centers are faith-based community centers that foster intellectual, moral and spiritual growth-promoting the ideal of educating the individual as a whole. They are often located on or near secular universities.
The Diocese of Brownsville has established two Newman Centers where college student population is high. CCM Edinburg serves students from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley campus Edinburg and neighboring South Texas College in McAllen. CCM Brownsville serves students from The University of Texas Rio Grand Valley and Texas Southmost College in Brownsville. In more recent years, Newman Clubs have formed at Texas State Technical College Harlingen and South Texas College in Rio Grande.
The diocese employs full-time staff to coordinate campus ministry activities and has designated priests assigned as chaplains for liturgical and sacramental services at the Newman Centers. The UT-RGV Newman Center is also used as a retreat house by several of the lay movements across the Valley.
